Yet Another Solo Renhai
But One
A Renhai by Vaughn Seward
August 18, 2008
Picket fence —
a missing board lying
on the grass.
Roadside loosestrife,
one stalk flat down.
Birds in the hedge —
all of them bluebirds
but one, a sparrow.
Theme: One among, different
Season: Summer
Link 1 to 2: Lying flat; Herbiage.
Link 2 to 3: Blue.
Link 3 to 1: Hedge / Fence.
This solo Renhai was inspired by a clump of loostrife that grew across from our backyard most of this past summer. Loostrife is considered a weed but I love their beautiful little bluebell-like blossoms that run up each stalk:

I feel like the sparrow....
ReplyDeletei've read through your previous posts (phew, a lot of catching up to do) and i think i'm going to really enjoy this series :)
ReplyDeleteThese are the kind of observations that draw my eye, spotting the odd one out.
ReplyDeleteThanks also for the introduction to loostrife, new to me, both beautiful to look at and with a fantastic name!
I didn't get the 'blue' link - here the loosestrife is a bright deep pink :) I think it's beautiful too but here they try to ban it as much as possible. Some of the most beautiful flowers to me are so-called 'weeds'. Loved the idea of odd one out in these verses.
ReplyDeleteYou got me unprepared! Bluebirds, loosestrife!? A true linguistic New Found Land for a country boy from Central Europe!?:)
ReplyDeleteThank God! A sparrow!:)
exquisite:-)
ReplyDeleteLove poetry. I, too a writer, more specifically a screenwriter, but
ReplyDeletethe different intrepretations left to the reader are remarkable. You described the inspiration to this poem which helps, but I think it's fascinating how others interpret a poem. I've gotten so many on
"Maria". It was very nice meeting you. Petra
Thank you all for your kind comments!
ReplyDeleteAndrew: :-) I know what you mean.
Janice: Yes, I know that in some places it is more pinkish-purple. Here this year it was blueish shading to a dark purple... very pretty.
Janet & Petra: Thank you visiting and commenting. I hope to see you back as we explore this new form.
Giving us a lot of time to reflect upon this One!?:)

Borut: Yes, the pace was/will be a bit slower than with the Rengay Through the Seasons series. :-)
ReplyDeleteJohn: Thanks.
The article is very interesting & true, I really like it, now a day’s is very expensive.
