Rengay Through the Seasons #45 Summary

by Masago: Rengay #45 (Jul 6-12, 2008) Summary

Pavement Blossoms

City park —
azalea petals among
cigarette butts.

Charred forest remains —
pink fireweed blossoms.

The front lawn,
long and going to seed —
beds of gout weed.

Weathered stump —
a green sprig emerges
from the moss.

A rusted bottle cap —
clumps of brown lichen.

Coloured chalk
blossoms — a flower bouquet
on the pavement.

The central theme in this rengay is "Botanical Beauty Contrasted". Verse 6 was inspired by a dream around the time that the 4th verse had just been written. The haiku inspired from the dream fit so well as the last verse in terms of theme and linking to the first verse that I decided to use it and to write a verse 5 to fit.

Rabi Nahman of Bratslav said, about two hundred years ago, that the story of a dream is no longer just a dream... When our dreams begin to bloom...!?:)

Coming late again but a great series. I've always found the most beautiful things are where beauty is largely unexpected. On my travels I try to keep my eye open to the ugliest / deadest corners never knowing what I might spot.

Andrew: Thank you.

Borut: An astute observation by him and perceptive of you to relate this rengay to it. Thank you & Mazal Tov!

John: Thanks.

Jem: Yes, you just never know, do you? Thank you.

Polona: :-) Many thanks.

This was most enjoyable with strong haiku. Do you often find dreams inspire your verse?

Masago said...

Janice: Thanks. Dreams have sometimes been an inspiration as with this verse. Also, sometimes I will fall asleep meditating on linking to a previous verse and by morning the concept for the next haiku comes to me. It is very satisfying when this happens. Most times though I end up grinding through various ideas and inspirations over the course of several days before a link feels works out. :-)
