Plumes of mist
rise from the river valley —
pre-dawn stillness. /vs
Pensive twilight clouds — /jt
a crow gazes east. /vs
Soft shadows —
a sand-crane collars
his last fish. /jt

Devika: Kigo is a Japanese word. It means a seasonal reference... a word or phrase that sets the haiku in one of the seasons (Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer). In this case 'mist' is considered a reference to Autumn. Seasonal references are very important in Japanese haiku and to a large extent in English haiku as well. With Renhai we prefer to see at least one of the three verses have a seasonal reference. Of course, if there is more than one reference, they should all be within the same season. And, it is possible to have a Renhai that is "All season" meaning that it has no specific seasonal reference and the Renhai could fit in every season. Thanks.
